Happy New Year!! I believe you should do the things on the first day of the year that you want to continue for the rest of the year. For me, a big part of that is taking advantage of those odd moments to write. I wrote some while Sweetpea took her nap this afternoon and am back in the chair now that she is down for the night.
Butt-in-the-chair-ness doesn’t mean less time with my family or less time doing my job, but it does mean less time watching TV, surfing on the internet, or playing games. Fifty years from now, I don’t think I’m going to say I’m glad I watched all those youtube videos.
Speaking of youtube videos, here’s one from Barry Eisler, author and critic of legacy publishing. He says that he was afraid that if he didn’t get published, it would be his fault. That’s one of my fears too. I don’t want to fail and have it be my fault. If I don’t succeed for other reasons, I can live with that.
Forgive me if this post isn’t long, but I’ve got a novel to finish. The Dreamless City, here I come!
