Writer. Adventurer. Currently working on The Dreamless City, a series of steampunk novels and short stories.
Music is a huge part of my creative process, whether it is grooving in the car thinking up new ideas or playing the same songs over and over to catch a mood for a particular scene. Sometimes I obsess on a song for weeks at a time. With time being such a precious commodity, music shortcuts the time for me to get in “the writing zone.”
I’ll be updating my playlist on Saturdays.
February 2, 2013
Obsessing on “Amsterdam” by Imagine Dragons
Just discovered “San Francisco” by Foxygen
“What the Water Gave Me” by Florence + the Machine is on my playlist
Also listening to “Ohm” by Yo La Tengo (special thanks to Nathan Bransford for writing about Growing Older with a Band)
And anything from Two Steps from Hell.
This week has been an atmospheric music week for me. Two Steps from Hell is fabulous to listen to while I’m brainstorming or writing. Their music always has a sense of movement to it, and it helps me imagine scenes like a movie trailer. I’m reading through some of my previous chapters and trying to add in some Dreamless City feel. I’ve been exploring what steampunk means in relation to this book. More about that next week.
