Writing as Business

He who writes and makes it pay,
Will live to write another day.

-Margaret Atwood

The business aspect of writing is being discussed more and more. It used to be that the majority of discussion revolved around the writing craft and a modest mention of agents and query letters was made at the end. With the advent of digital publishing, this is no longer the case. Authors have equal distribution power with the Big Five publishers to get books to customers. Writers desiring to become published authors, whether by their own hand or through a traditional publishing partnership, should treat writing as a business.
